Each person whose application has been approved by the Department of Labor and Regulation must successfully pass a national examination which occurs after the application has been approved. South Dakota residents will take a national examination prepared and administered by a testing company which has been approved by the Appraisal Subcommittee and Appraiser Qualifications Board.
The fee for examination will be determined by the testing company. You do not pay the examination fee until your application has been approved; the fee is paid directly to the testing company.
Upon approval of an application, the applicant will be provided a candidate handbook for the computerized National Uniform Appraiser Examination and instructions for contacting and making arrangements with the testing company to sit for the examination. The candidate receives an Examination Score Report at the examination center indicating a pass or fail score. The candidate must mail the original report to the Department, using the address below.
After the Department of Labor and Regulation receives the score and all of the requirements have been met, a certificate will be sent to successful applicants. It is at this point an individual may claim he or she is a certified, licensed or registered appraiser.
